About The Daisy Chain
The Daisy Chain was created by Louise Deverell-Smith after working in recruitment she wanted to create an easy way for Parents to find employers who could offer them ‘flexible’ roles to ultimately help them create a happy home/work-life balance. The Daisy Chain eliminates recruiters and Parents don’t need CVs to register – easy peasy!

Louise Deverell-Smith's Experience
Louise is the founder of The Daisy Chain and built the website after her priorities at work and in life changed after having her children. She is a busy Mum of 3.
1. What were, or are, the biggest challenges you faced going back into the work place having had children?
Guilt! I was guilty about leaving the children and going to work, and then also guilty for not going to work and being at home...I found it really hard to get the balance right (and not sure I really have) I try not to have any regrets in life and to live each day as it comes.
2. How did your career change after having children?
Well, I found after each child my 'network' of clients definitely got smaller! Either people were also off and having babies or I wasn't quite so visible in the marketplace as I wasn't able (or wanting) to do the social networking things as much! Random Tuesday night drinks and dinners with clients were a thing of my past! I, therefore, had to think of other ways to stay visible and I hope The Daisy Chain will offer a way for Mums for do this (and maybe enjoying an evening glass of wine at home while their children are sleeping peacefully, knowing Mummy is home!)
3. How do you balance your career with your family?
I am lucky to have an amazing nanny! My family doesn't live nearby so having support here is a necessity for me, and I know my family wouldn't function without our fab nanny!
4. How has working for The Daisy Chain enhanced your family/ work life balance?
The Daisy Chain has given me the total flexibility I need so I don't have to feel guilty about missing out on some important days in my children's lives. I can now go to their class assembly, go on school trips (which I have to say is a lot more full-on than a day in the office). It has also made me a better 'Mum' as I'm happier at home and my children can see I'm working hard and I'm really passionate about what we are doing here on The Daisy Chain.
5. If you could give your ‘pre-children’ self, one piece of advice about being a working mother, what would it be?
Don't compare yourself to anyone else, and you will never be perfect. Remember you have given birth to 3 little people and so you deserve a big high-five for that. You will never get your work/home life balance 100%, but as long as you are 'present' and loving to your children it should all turn out ok. Oh, plus take lots of holidays before they start school, so you can go away at any time and avoid school holidays!
