FLEX FOR ALL!
Here at Daisy Chain, things are changing – for the better.Â
Daisy Chain was formed as a direct reaction to the lack of flexible working offered for parents coupled with my frustration and dismay at the fact that hugely talented people were not allowed to return to the workforce because they’d dared to have a baby!Â
The lack of insight and missed opportunities employers all over the UK were experiencing by not offering a flexible working option was staggering. And for the past few years, I have made it my mission to shout about the fact that offering flexible working can greatly benefit employers everywhere and I’m super proud to say that things have shifted.
Of course, there is still a lot of work to do but through research, knowledge and education myself and my team show time and time again the benefits of offering flexible working and the fact that the full-time ethos is not only outdated, but pretty archaic.Â
The parents we have on our books at Daisy Chain are a plethora of talent and offer so much to any company – it does beggar belief that still some companies out there worry that their output won’t be what they need because they might have to leave at 4pm; I mean, please.Â
It has been proven time and time again that people working in flexible roles over deliver in terms of commitment, workload and attitude because, due to their limited hours, their focus and dedication is on point. I have spoken a lot before about the actual reality of working full time and, speaking from experience, the time wasted compared to the outlay of pure working activity.Â
Through growing Daisy Chain over the past few years and immersing myself in the flexible working world by getting to know fellow champions in this world such as Anna Whitehouse and the Pregnant Then Screwed team, it is sadly apparent that there is still so much more to do. There is still a staggering shortfall in support for women successfully returning to work, the lack of fathers asking for and taking paternity leave and the overall attitude to people who ask for flexible working.Â
In my opinion, things are changing slowly, and a lot of new, forward-thinking employers are showing up the old school, set-in-their-ways brands of old. This coupled with the rise of the millennials and their – rightful – demands regarding work/life balance are ensuring that any employer worth their salt sits up and takes notice and takes on board the overwhelming benefits of offering flexible working to not only their staff wellbeing and happiness but to their commercial bottom line.Â
In light of the seismic shift in attitudes of today’s job seekers who are demanding a good work/life balance and an offer of flexibility on the table, Daisy Chain has decided to swing its doors open to everybody who is seeking to work flexibly, parent or not.Â
This is a natural growth decision for us as, although we started with parents initially, it has become abundantly clear that it is not just parents who want to work flexibly in this current climate.Â
With the rise in stress-related mental and physical health issues, people are rightfully questioning the balance in their own lives and seeking alternative ways to readdress the balance of work and life for their own self-preservation. And here at Daisy Chain, we want to work with these people and the fantastic employers we have on our books to find them that perfect job that allows them to have a happy, healthy life as, after all, isn’t that what it’s all about?Â
So, if you are seeking a flexible role that doesn’t dilute your experience and skill set, please talk to us.Â
