It takes a village…
There are so many decisions new parents have to make and among the biggest is the choice of childcare when returning to work. We want talented, enthusiastic people to inspire our offspring. To challenge them. To open their eyes to the vast opportunities before them. Surely that’s not too much to ask, right, considering childcare has been proven to have a positive long-term influence on a child’s development?  And that’s not to mention that it can often be as much as one person’s salary.Â
But finding the right childcare is often difficult. And – depending on where you live – it can be surprisingly competitive. The introduction of 30 free hours, as well as the ability to negotiate flexible working contracts, has meant that more people than ever can go back to work. Â
I found it so difficult to choose the right type of childcare for my three. After looking at all the options we decided a nanny was the way to go and we haven’t looked back. Our nanny is part of our family and I don’t know what we’d do without her. While she helps me keep the family running, she also makes sure my children become the best people they can be. And she gives me the breathing space I need to do my job. To help build Daisy Chain – to find credible family-friendly employers looking for the best talent there is and to fly the flag for flexible working. I couldn’t do my job if I didn’t have her.Â
If you’re reading this then you know as well as I do that the way people work has changed. We don’t rely on one breadwinner any more to achieve the lifestyles we want. Advances in technology have meant that the traditional nine-to-five, Monday to Friday, is now not a necessity for most. Managers know that to keep and retain the best talent they need to be more agile. This means that parents like you have more options when it comes to choosing the right childcare structure for your family because you have so many different options at your fingertips. Â
Great childcare is crucial. Deciding who looks after your child while you’re at work is one of the hardest decisions new parents have to make and being confident with that choice is not easy. Certainly not in the early days. To be able to be a childcare professional – to be chosen to be part of a child’s life and to help them grow – is one of the most valuable jobs out there. That’s why Daisy Chain is proud to support the Tinies, Inspiring a Future in Childcare, campaign.
