Let’s not forget the Dads…
So after being 1-month old, I wanted to reflect on what we have achieved and learnt in our first month of trying to ‘Connect mums with family-friendly employers’…
Firstly, I’m delighted with all the fabulous, qualified and motivated Mums who have joined The Daisy Chain so far, and the equally brilliant employers! It really cements my vision of what The Daisy Chain aims to do – so thank you to all of you that have joined!
And secondly, I need to consider the Dads out there too. Before I launched The Daisy Chain I debated (a lot!) about how we should appeal to Dads, as we let all people join…we never say ‘thanks but no thanks!
But how do we go about doing this? Should we change the strap-line (For Mums (and Dads) that mean business)? Or should we change the home page wording to ‘Connecting people with family-friendly employers’? To be honest, I‘m still not sure what the right thing to do is.
I know that everyone’s family situation is different, and ‘working around childcare’ can be a Dad issue too. The stats prove this. In a recent study, 44% of dads have lied about their family-related responsibilities, and the government forecasts that between 2% and 8% of eligible fathers will take up Shared Parental Leave in 2017…which is kind of shocking!
So, of course, we embrace Dads (and Aunties, Uncles, Grannies, Grandad’s and carers!) on The Daisy Chain…we want to simply connect people with family-friendly employers.
The Daisy Chains aim has always been to help the 2.6 million mums not working in the UK due to not being able to find suitable roles around childcare. However, we embrace all people who care for children, because we want to create a place where parents can connect to employers who are understanding of a parent’s needs.
So that’s my mission and I’m happy to say we have lots of Mums and DADS who have registered on the Daisy Chain, and I hope we can help connect them to family-friendly employers.
We want to keep making our Daisy Chain of brilliant PEOPLE…so spread the word!
